qqwCongratulations to Providence Academy senior Maggie Murphy who has been named the school’s 2018-2019 Athena Award Winner.  The mission of the Athena Award is to recognize an outstanding senior female athlete from each of the Minneapolis area high schools and to honor each woman for her achievements in one or several sports.

Maggie is a fitting honoree, as she has accumulated eleven Varsity letters in three sports: five in basketball, three in soccer, and three in and track & field.  When asked to list her three most important sports accomplishments, Maggie mentioned reaching the 1000 points threshold in basketball, being selected IMAC player of the month, and going to the state tournament for shot put in her sophomore year.

Maggie’s approach to sports is straightforward. “Before every basketball game, or any sporting event, my dad would tell me, ‘Have fun and play with a smile on your face.’ This has stuck with me throughout the years and is now one of my mottos for living my life.”

Outside of sports, Maggie is a volunteer at Maple Grove Hospital, works at Honey & Mackie’s, and plays flute in PA’s Symphonic Band.   Her list of scholastic achievements is impressive as well, earning an academic letter in grades 10 through 12, making the Headmaster’s List throughout upper school, and being named CCX Media Standout Student in 2019.

Next fall, Maggie will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Again, congratulations to Maggie on this well-deserved recognition.
