Congratulations to the Providence Academy boys Track and Field Team 2019 MSHSL Runner Up State Champions!

The Providence Academy Track and Field team brought home three individual state champions.

Congratulations to sophomore Jayson Ekiyor, 2019 State Champion in the boys 110m High Hurdles.

Of his performance, Coach Hohenecker shares, “Jayson had a fantastic run in the prelims and was going into the finals in second position. There was no doubt in my mind when he took off out of those starting blocks that he was going to be coming through that finish line in first place. Congratulations Jayson!”

Congratulations to junior Max Peckenschneider, 2019 State Champion in both the boys 100m Dash and 200m Dash.

Coach Hohenecker reviews, “In the prelims of both races Max came out on top and was seeded in first place for the finals in both events. I was quite confident that Max knew what he needed to do to outrun his opponents. He did just that as he cruised to the finish line in both events. Congratulations Max!”

Congratulations to senior Christian Davis, 2019 State Champion in the boys Long Jump.

Coach Hohenecker explains, “Christian kept things exciting as he had three jumps in the preliminary round and three jumps in the final round. He sailed into the pit with a fantastic jump of 22-08.75. No one in the competition could top this jump and Christian became the new state champion! Congratulations Christian!”

Providence Academy had four school records broken at the state meet as well. A special congratulation goes out to Jayson Ekiyor as he, for the second time this season, broke both of his own records in both the 110m High Hurdle race and the 300m Hurdles. Jayson ran a time of 14.96 in the 110m High Hurdles and a time of 41.67 in the 300m Hurdles. Junior Maddie Kelly broke her own school record in the 1600m Run running a time of 5:03.26. Max Peckenschneider broke his own school record in the 100m Dash, running a time of 10.91.

Coach Hohenecker summarizes, “Even though we had some things not go our way at the state meet we found it within to pick ourselves up and keep moving on. There were many good memories that went down in history as well. I am more than proud of these athletes for the way they performed and more importantly for the way they carried themselves as individuals. They were true athletes for they accepted their victories with humility and pride. And even though frustrating, they accepted their defeats with greatness. Every single athlete who competed in the state meet gains a sense of accomplishment and success. Let us all remember their faith in the Lord was the reason for it all!”
